Pre-Event Preparation Lessons

Deliver these three lessons in the 1–2 weeks before LinkedIn Day. Each is 25–35 minutes. Copy content directly into Canvas, Google Classroom, or Schoology.

Module 1 of 3 · Pre-Event
Professional Identity — Who Are You, Really?
25 min
Workbook pp. 7–8

Objectives: Students define their career identity using structured reflection. Students draft a 30-second professional introduction using the Name → Career Focus → Skill Strength → Goal formula.

🎯
Activity (10 min): Complete Workbook p. 7 — Career Identity Reflection. Write Draft 1 introduction on p. 8. Do not edit yet — just write.
🗣️
Pair Share (5 min): Say your introduction out loud to a partner. Partner gives feedback: Was it clear? Specific? Did it sound like the real you?
💬
LMS Discussion: "Post your refined introduction in 2–4 sentences."
🤖
AI Extension: Paste your intro into ChatGPT and ask: "How can I make this more specific and professional?" Keep what sounds like you.
Teacher Note: Have students record themselves on their phones. Watching playback is more powerful than peer feedback alone.

Module 2 of 3 · Pre-Event
Portfolio Storytelling — Let Your Work Speak
30 min
Workbook pp. 9–10, 13

Objectives: Students translate CTE projects into employer-facing language. Students distinguish weak ("I edited a video") from strong ("I produced a 3-min documentary using Adobe Premiere Pro...") descriptions.

🔍
Case Study (8 min): Read "The Quiet Portfolio" (Workbook p. 13). What did Alex lose? What should they have said?
✍️
Project Documentation (12 min): Complete Workbook p. 9 — all fields including the employer-facing description at the bottom.
📤
LMS Assignment: Submit your employer-facing project description. Action verb + specific tools + measurable outcome. Minimum 3 sentences.

Module 3 of 3 · Pre-Event
Networking Simulation — Practice Before the Room
35 min
Workbook pp. 8, 15, 20

Objectives: Students practice professional introductions in a low-stakes simulation. Students complete LinkedIn connection request and follow-up message templates.

📖
Case Study (8 min): "The Silent Networker" (Workbook p. 15). What does Sam communicate through body language and response?
🎭
Mock Networking Rotation (15 min): Students rotate every 3 minutes. Introduce yourself, share one project, ask one question.
Curveball Round (5 min): Teacher interrupts mid-intro. Student practices recovering gracefully. This single exercise has the highest ROI of the entire pre-event sequence.
